As a young lady in her early twenties, Lila Rose has already accomplished more than most of us ever will in our lifetimes. At the age of 9 years old she became strongly pro-life and continues to this day. At 15 years of age she started liveaction.org which has been instrumental in exposing the criminal aspects of the abortion industry to the point that her actions have led to 61 million dollars being de-funded to Planned Parenthood.
She grew up as a devout Protestant but recently has converted to the Catholic faith. Her story in brief is found here.
Abby Johnson, former Episcopalian and former manager of a Planned Parenthood clinic recently converted after leaving her job and writing an expose of the abortion industry .
Norma McCorvey AKA as Jane Roe in Roe vs Wade, converted to evangelical Protestantism and subsequently completed her journey of faith when she converted to the Catholic faith several years ago.
Bryan Kemper, former reformed evangelical and founder of Stand True , an international pro-life ministry, recently entered the Catholic faith this past year. His story was told on the Journey Home program one month ago.
Dave Armstrong, former evangelical, came to conversion as a result of spending time in jail with Catholics who were arrested at a protest at an abortion clinic.
There appears to be an interesting correlation that the more one becomes involved in pro-life activities, the closer they come to the Catholic Church. I suspect it is their exposure to the tremendous teachings of the Catholic Church regarding issues of life as well as interacting with many Catholics who are still the majority of those in pro-life ministry.

ReplyDeleteA good point. There are a lot of people of all faiths in the pro-life movement, but mostly Christians and particularly Catholic.
Brantly Millegan wrote recently about the strong Catholic presence at the March for Life.
Although I did not become interested in Catholicism through the pro-life movement, I believe that many pro-lifers are attracted to the coherence of Catholic theology as regards life issues. After all, as a Protestant I was against abortion because "the Bible says it's wrong." Actually, the Bible is somewhat ambivalent as far as abortion, as Mark Shea so eloquently points out. It bothered me that we Baptists were "pro-life" when it came to abortion, but so aggressively "pro-death" as far as executing criminals. There is no coherent Protestant approach to life issues, just a patchwork of ideas sewn together with "Bible-only" threads.
ReplyDeletethanks Goerge, I put a little comment over on Brant's blog. he basically said what I had been afraid to say on my blog!
ReplyDeleteRenee, thank the Lord he gave us His Church with a promise to lead us into all truth, including those truths which are not found, chapter and verse, in the bible.
