An Evangelical Converts to Catholicism

My Photo
Name:
Location: Pennsylvania, United States

I was born into the Catholic faith. At 14, I was "born again" and found Jesus personally but lost His Church. After thirty years as an evangelical protestant, I have come full circle to find that He has been there all the time, in the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church. I wish others to find the beauty and truth of the Catholic faith as I have found.

An Evangelical Bids the Pope Goodbye

My friend Magister has written a stirring account of his fondness for  Pope Benedict.
Please read his whole blog post here.

"And yet tonight there is a sadness in this Evangelical's heart, for I have respected and loved this pope, even being tempted in his early days to purchase one of the many products proclaiming, "I Love My German Shepherd." I can only pray that God will bless us with a man of such faith and intelligence, one who truly saw only Christ and strove to achieve, regardless of any other opinion, what was best for His Church."

I wish to God that more Catholics were as thoughtful, knowledgeable, and charitable as this Protestant brother! Absolutely amazing....

A man after Benedict's own heart!

I pray that other Protestants of good will could recognize the goodness in this papacy as Magister has. Thanks Magister for your openness.

This would be a good time to dismantle the papacy given that its unbiblical and unknown for centuries.

Dear anon:
The Protestants have already done this and the indisputable result is over 30,000 each claiming to be the true church of Jesus Christ with the correct interpretation of the bible. Each year another denomination caves into immorality in an attempt to mirror the culture it is surrounded by. The Catholic Church led by Christ's vicar on earth never cowtows to society but challenges the world to live up to the gospel. The popes, even the bad ones, ensure that the Church never errs in faith and moral teaching.

The scriptures don't have the word pope in it but they do establish the concept of the papacy. Where in the bible does it say that all things that are truth have to be written in the bible? This is the cruel error of sola scriptura that forces its practitioners into a dangerous path of twisting scripture to fit only the doctrines they hold to. If they dont agree with a doctrine, they either twist scripture (This is my body doesnt mean this is my body) or do as Luther did and attempt to remove several books of the Bible that went against his unique doctrines. he didn;t agree with purgatory and removed maccabees, part of scripture canon since the 4th century. He didn't agree with fatih alone doesnt save you, and attempted to remove the book of James. In essence Luther became his own pope without the anointing of the Holy Spirit and the fragmentation and division of the body of Christ has been his legacy ever since.
