Crossed The Tiber

An Evangelical Converts to Catholicism

My Photo
Name:
Location: Pennsylvania, United States

I was born into the Catholic faith. At 14, I was "born again" and found Jesus personally but lost His Church. After thirty years as an evangelical protestant, I have come full circle to find that He has been there all the time, in the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church. I wish others to find the beauty and truth of the Catholic faith as I have found.

Is Catholic-Orthodox Unity in Sight?

Check out this story. I think if this were to come to pass, it would be a great stimulus for other denominations to follow suit.

Maybe if you're looking through the Hubble telescope...otherwise, no.

Well, the issue of papal authority is a big one to swallow on their part, but there's always hope!

George, i think this could give people more hope that the Lord's prayer in john 15, for unity would finally start to come about.
Maybe other groups on the fringe would think, "well if the Russian Orthodox could accept the papacy, maybe we should too" Who knows ? stranger things have happened.

It seems to me, that they seriously want to get this taken care of. There seems to be an urgency to all of this now. This fall they are discussing the roll of the Pope. I am eager to see/hear what they talk about.

Tiber Jumper, I pray that it happens, but if you read any Orthodox blogs, it ain't happening anytime soon. The hype here is just hype - it's hope-springs-eternal on the Catholic end. It won't happen unless/until Papa Benedict redefines papal authority in a way that is palatable to the East and quickly "develops" some of our recent dogmas concerning papal infallibility and the like. Either that some mind-numbingly out-of-the-blue event happens that forces a reunion - I don't know what that would be, but I'm just saying.

But if it ever did happen ... wouldn't that be sweet. May it happen in our lifetime.
